The ERC consolidator grant is awarded to the VolcanoTectonics group at GFZ Potsdam, PI Thomas R. Walter. The VolcanoTectonics group has leading expertise in volcano deformation processes, and combines modern geodetic methods in physical volcanology, computer vision, photogrammetry, and volcano process modelling. Scientific focus is to enlighten our understanding of the coupled physical processes occurring at volcanoes and associated magma pathways and reservoirs, during the different stages of volcano growth and collapse. Understanding such processes is essential in order to improve hazard assessment and early warning at volcanoes worldwide.
